Maximum Motorsports Rear Coil-Overs
MM designed their rear coil-overs for smaller 2.25" diameter springs. This gives better clearance for wider tires and less chance of interference with the chassis compared to 2.5” springs. The smaller O.D. 2.25” springs are also significantly lighter. Unique to the MM rear coil-over kit is the proprietary Delrin/ aluminum upper shock mount. This ball and socket design allows the angularity required for proper movement of the rear shock with the suspension while keeping the car’s weight from deforming the shock’s rubber upper mount. Included with the kit is a new lower shock bracket that attaches to the axle with two bolts. The original stock lower shock mounting bracket was designed with one bolt attaching it to the rear axle housing, and is insufficient to carry the weight of the car. The MM Panhard Bar axle mount provides a very sturdy mount on the other side of the car. If you do not have a MM Panhard Bar, you will also need to purchase an additional lower shock mount, part number MMSM-2. The rear coil-over kit for Bilstein shocks requires a groove to be added to the shock body. If you are buying your Bilsteins at the same time as your coil-over kit, we can send you grooved shocks with your order. MM does not groove B46-2148 rear shocks for coil over applications. These shocks have an insufficent weld configuration on the lower shock eye to be used with coil over suspension. Early cars must convert to late model shocks (BE5-6418-H1) and remove the bump stops from the frame rails. The late model shocks utilize shaft mounted bump stops instead of frame mounted stops. If you are using 2003 or 2004 OEM Bilstein shocks for your kit, you will need the MMSM-10 upper mount kit.
*This kit requires that the metal dust shield be machined off the shock shaft. We sell shocks with the shield already removed Back to Maximum Motorsports Rear Suspension Page
